FAQs
-
A mental health care plan (MHCP) is a support plan for someone to address mental health concerns.
Your GP prepares a MHCP with you in an appointment with treatment recommendations - this can include attending sessions with a psychologist.
Medicare (the government) funds a ‘rebate’ for psychology sessions. When you receive a MHCP you are eligible for a rebate.
-
Your first MHCP will be for 6 rebated appointments, once you use these appointments you can complete a review appointment with your GP and in collaboration you can be re-referred for another 4 rebated appointments. Medicare allows you to rebate 10 sessions per calendar year. If you have appointments left on your MHCP at the end of a calendar year, you can use these in the following year.
-
No, you can self refer and start sessions straight away. However, if you are wanting to use a medicare rebate you’ll need to complete a Mental Health Care Plan with your GP before your session.
-
EMDR therapy is an evidence based and structured therapy that engages the clients brain (specifically the adaptive information processing system) to reduce the distress associated with traumatic memories. For more information please see EMDRA FAQs.

All you need is a smart device (E.g. phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer). You’ll need access to a stable internet connection. Other things to consider, pick a quiet and private space that you feel comfortable in.
